Sociological Study of Explaining the Social Factors of Attitude towards Adoption (Case Study: Married Women live in Shiraz)

Abstract

Introduction: Childbearing has always been a way to bring a family together. Having a child naturally may not be possible for some people for any reason, such as biological reasons, although they can achieve it by adopting a child. This study evaluated the relationship between sociological factors and the attitude toward adoption. The conceptual framework used in this study was stigma theory and labeling theory.
Methods: This study was conducted among 400 women, the statistical population of Shiraz. Participants in this study were married women between the ages of 20 and 60 who had been married for at least three years. Half of these women were randomly selected from Shiraz and the other half from infertility centers. Data were collected through surveys and personal visits using the simple sampling method and analyzed in an SPSS environment using statistical tests.
Findings: The hypothesis test showed there was a significant relationship between the independent variables of two dimensions of social health and spiritual health, and both dimensions were respondents' self-evaluation of physical health and attitude towards adoption. On the other hand, the results indicated no significant relationship between other independent variables, including social health and its other dimensions, mental health, age, level of education, number of children, and infertility experience, with the dependent variable. The results of this study will help to understand different aspects of adopting and will pave the way for other sociological research in this field.
