Abstract

Mental health is one of the key variables in the field of Psychology and Educational Sciences and several related factors have been studied so far. The purpose of this research was to study the prediction of mental health based on variables of personality characters and body image. The statistical population of this research included all female two-grade high school students in Sepidan in the academic Year 2017-2018. The sample study consisted of 248 female high school students who were selected by stratified random sampling. The instruments used in this study were NEO-Five factors questionnaire (Costa & McCrae, 1992), Multidimensional body-self relations (Cash, 1997), And General Health (Goldberg& Hillier.1979) Questionnaire. The correlation coefficient and stepwise regression were used to analyze the data. The results showed that there was a positive and significant relation between extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness with the mental health of adults Female students, and there was a negative and significant relation between neuroticism and mental health (P<0/01). Neuroticism feature, Extraversion, and Conscientiousness predicted 19 percent of the variance of mental health. Also, the results showed that there was a meaningful relationship Between Mental Health and Body image (P<0/05). Body Areas Satisfaction and Appearance Orientation predicted 11 percent of the variance of mental health. So, it was found from the research findings that the personality characteristics and body image can play  important roles in mental health of Female Students.
