Prediction of Marital Satisfaction Based on Couple’s Emotional and Spiritual Intelligence

Abstract

According to research conducted in the field of emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence and the interactive relationship between spiritual and emotional intelligence and their direct impacts on each other, this study examines the impact of emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence on marital satisfaction as well as predicting of marital satisfaction through emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence. The research method was descriptive-correlation. The study population for this study consisted of all couples in the city of Yazd in 2013. A sample size of 400 couples (800 individuals) by a multi- stage random sampling from three regions of Yazd was selected. For data collection the Abdullah Zadeh’s Spiritual Intelligence Questionnaire, Enrich's Marital Satisfaction Scale and Bradberry – Greave's Emotional Intelligence Test were used. The data were analyzed by using Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analyses (simultaneous). Findings showed a positive relationship between spiritual and emotional intelligence with marital satisfaction, and emotional intelligence can better predict marital satisfaction than spiritual intelligence. With regard to the positive relationship between emotional and spiritual intelligence and marital satisfaction, it is concluded that training in emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence for couples can increase their marital satisfaction.
