Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explain the differences in social problem solving and rumination in different female age groups living in Shiraz city. The sample consisted of 470 females aged teen to elder. Social Problem Solving Inventory-Revised:Short Form and Rumination Questionnaire were used in this study. Various studies have established the validity and reliability of these devices. Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance and multivariate analysis of variance. Findings showed a significant difference in three dimensions of social problem solving (positive problem orientation, negative problem orientation and avoidance style) and two dimensions of rumination (brooding and introspection) among the different age groups. In sum, the results revealed that these variables are developmental variables during life span.
